When should you seek virtual care?

Sore throat, coughing, sneezing, or a questionable rash? Both e-visits and video visits are available to anyone two years and older for a variety of minor illnesses. Learn more about the conditions we treat.

Who is virtual care not for?

It is not intended for the treatment of chronic conditions, medication changes, or medical consultation.

Virtual Care should not be used for emergency care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

Frequently Asked Questions

SSM Health Express Virtual Care providers are licensed and able to prescribe certain medications as part of your treatment plan, if clinically appropriate. We do not provide prescriptions for pain medications or narcotics. SSM Health Express Virtual Care is not an online pharmacy and we cannot fill prescriptions. If a prescription medication is part of your treatment plan, you can send it to the pharmacy of your choice. You are responsible for the cost of any prescriptions, over-the-counter treatments, or follow-up visits you may need related to prescriptions.

Using this online video service, you can connect with a trusted SSM Health clinician and receive treatment from your home, office, or other convenient location, for the following:

You will not be able to speak directly with your existing SSM Health provider via SSM Health Express Virtual Care. If you would prefer to speak to your existing care provider online, please message your provider via MyChart or call the site of care location to ask if they participate in telehealth visits. Note, not all providers participate in telehealth visits, and how quickly you can get an appointment will vary.

Yes, we can provide treatment for patients 2 years and older. For diaper rash concerns, there is no minimum age. All patients must be physically located in MO, IL, OK or WI at the time of the visit.

For children under the age of 18 years, a parent or legal guardian and the child must be present together for the video visit.

Yes, you can use a phone, iPad, or your computer.

For a video visit, you must have your camera enabled. To successfully connect via phone or tablet, you must have the Zoom Cloud Meetings and MyChart apps installed. We encourage you to have your video on if possible.

You do not need insurance to complete virtual care. The maximum out of pocket cost is $39 for an e-visit or $59 for a video visit. The cost could be less iffiled with an accepted insurance.

Note if you are an existing SSM Health patient and your insurance has covered in-person visits in the past, the same insurance should be accepted through SSM Health Express Virtual Care. You will be directed to pay with a credit card or a health savings account (HSA) card before receiving care.

Yes, we serve both new and existing patients. SSM Health Express Virtual Care is available to anyone in our four regions of service: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. A brief registration processwill be required for your first visit.

All the information you provide is encrypted and protected.

Yes, you will be receiving treatment from a board certified SSM Health nurse practitioner (NP) or physician associate (PA). They can coordinate online prescriptions when necessary. There are also some cases where they will suggest that you visit in-person depending on the severity of your symptoms.

We do our best to treat you online, but not every condition can be treated via virtual care. If your health concern cannot be addressed through SSM Health Express Virtual Care, you may be directed to an in-person clinic for care.

If we can't provide treatment, you will not be charged.

If you have concerns about a chronic condition, need a change to an existing medication, or are seeking medical consultation/advice on a condition not listed, a virtual care visit might not be appropriate.

SSM Health Express Virtual Care providers are not able to order imaging (X-rays and scans), prescribe controlled substances, conduct care requiring an in-person visit (such as physicals for school, work, or employment), manage chronic conditions, or accept workers’ compensation. For any of these situations, please contact your primary care provider. If you do not have one, you can find a primary care provider near you or compare your care options to find the right level of care for your condition.
